Here are the details on those weird Greek words Sam uses, for those who are interested:
Makarios – adjective, nominative, singular, masculine – means “Happy, happy, happy” (it is translated as “blessed” usually, and has been translated as “oh the divine happiness,” but in Koine Greek, the best translation for Matthew 5 would simply be happy). In Matthew 5:3-12 the word used is actually “makarioi” which is the adjective, nominative, plural, masculine form of the word “makarios”.
Matthew 5:31-32: To ensure that nobody twists the words of this song in this verse, I used the United Bible Societies (UBS) 3rd corrected edition words directly from the Koine Greek. Each person must study, investigate what the Koine Greek declensions and conjugations mean, and know that the Holy Spirit has only one message in the words. The words are:
poiei (verb, present, active, indicative, 3rd person, singular)
auten (pronoun, accusative, singular, feminine, 3rd person)
moikheuthenai (infinitive, aorist, passive)
moikhatai (verb, present, passive, indicative, 3rd person, singular)
And for all you smart alecks out there, yes I know the image should have had a mountain in it. But the only pictures of mountains I have are the Olympic Mountains covered in snow, which kind of clashes with the mental picture of Jesus preaching in Israel.
